Pay: $18/hour

Location: Winston-Salem, NC

Days/Time: M-F, 2:30-6 p.m. (Flexible hours). Two or more people to cover a total of 20+ hours per week plus occasional evening and weekend babysitting.

Home and school are in Winston-Salem near Wake Forest University.

All of the skills involved in this job can be taught on the job. The most important trait is your willingness to learn and to work with the parents to develop routines and strategies that work for everyone. The parents will train you on Collier’s specific cares. General training is provided by the agency.

Wages—around $18 per hour with pandemic bonus. Hazard bonus at the end of the month (pandemic benefit). Paid by agency (TBD). Workers Comp included.

During the afternoon hours you will provide assistance to the child at his afterschool program so there will be teachers and other children (and a sibling) present. Some days you may accompany the child to Physical or Occupational Therapy appointments in town.

Significant Dx:

  • Cerebral Palsy
  • Chronic Lung Disease
  • ADHD
  • Developmental delays in gross and fine motor skills
  • G-tube dependent
  • Anxiety/Sensory issues

Strengths:

  • Very verbal (great vocabulary) and inquisitive
  • Walks, jumps, runs for short distances
  • Works hard at school and therapy
  • Likes to play with brother, friends and adults
  • Kind and sensitive
  • Knows his schedule better than adults

Duties:

  • Administer formula through a gtube.
  • Occasionally give nebulizer treatments and gtube medications.
  • Help child with ambulation and toileting.
  • Reinforce strategies determined by his teachers, doctors and therapists
  • Attend to him and his supplies in the car or school van/bus (no driving required on the job)
  • Help him manage focus and anxiety related to ADHD.
  • Typical babysitting duties (get snacks, manage behavior, keep kid safe).
  • Paperwork assigned by the employing agency.

A good, qualified candidate will:

  • Be reliable and punctual and communicate scheduling conflicts early
  • Prioritize this as a serious part-time job
  • Be willing to learn and perform Collier’s cares and therapies
  • Have or get pediatric CPR certification
  • Meet other requirements by the state or agency including trainings
  • Pass criminal background check and not be banned from billing Medicaid/Medicare
  • Have/Take the covid vaccine and yearly flu shot (Child and family are vaccinated)
  • Have interests in or experience with Physical Therapy, Occupational Therapy, Behavioral Psychology, Childhood Development in Children with Disabilities or experience working with children (though this is not required)
  • Communicate and coordinate with the parents
  • Be able to lift a 50 pound kid occasionally or help him into and out of furniture, wheelchairs, etc.
  • Limit phone usage to short conversations and only when Collier’s needs are met.
  • If you ever work in our home–Like cats (2)
  • Be a non-smoker
  • Like energetic little boys
