Job Description
- Assists departments and organizations in providing excellent customer service.
- Assists departments and organizations with marketing and distributing various publicity/promotional items.
- Assists with daily activities, exhibitions and special events.
- Assume responsibility for safety of patrons and enforce rules and regulations.

- No experience required – Will train.
- Provide customer service in person and over the phone.
- Requires creativity and ability to work independently.
- *Normal working hours M-F between 10am-5pm, Optional Saturday shifts between 1pm-5pm, and occasional evenings, usually 5-8pm

About the Galleries
The Charlotte and Philip Hanes Art Gallery, located in Scales Fine Arts Center, is a dynamic educational space where students and the broader community can engage with contemporary and historical artworks. Presenting 3–5 exhibitions each year, the gallery also hosts a wide range of interdisciplinary programs, including dance, poetry, and music events.
stArt Gallery, operated by and for Wake Forest University students, provides additional opportunities for students to exhibit artwork, curate shows, and gain hands-on gallery experience. Together, these galleries serve as vibrant hubs for creative exchange, dialogue, and learning.
Hours of Operation
Monday–Friday: 10 am–5 pm
Saturday: 1 pm–5 pm
Closed during University holidays. Special events may extend hours into evenings or additional weekend days.
Students typically work 4–8 hours per week, depending on availability. Additional hours may be available for special events and Saturday shifts, but these are optional.
Position Summary
Gallery Assistants play a key role in supporting the daily operations of Hanes Art Gallery and stArt Gallery. They help create a welcoming and professional environment for all visitors and gain valuable experience in gallery management, customer service, and arts administration.
Primary Responsibilities
-Welcome and greet all visitors; provide basic information about current exhibitions and gallery programming
-Answer gallery phone and take messages as needed
-Track and log visitor attendance
-Monitor the galleries to ensure a safe and respectful environment (no food or drink, appropriate handling of artworks)
-Assist with opening and closing procedures
-Provide administrative support to the Gallery Manager and Director (e.g., organizing files, preparing materials, data entry)
-Support installation and de-installation of exhibitions under staff supervision
-Distribute promotional materials (posters, flyers) across campus
-Help staff evening events, including monitoring attendance, assisting with food prep, and cleanup
Qualifications
-Reliable, punctual, and professional demeanor
-Strong communication and interpersonal skills
-Interest in art, museums, or arts administration (prior experience is a plus but not required)
-Ability to work independently and as part of a team
-Attention to detail and willingness to take initiative
