Location: Winston-Salem, NC and Belews Creek, NC

Pay: $15/hour + assistance with gas

Days/Hours:2/3 days per wk, 3-4 hrs per day ( Monday afternoon 1-3 preferred priority)

Job Description:

Local family is looking for a student interested in working with their son. He is a young adult male with a diagnosis on the autism spectrum who works part-time in the community and receives ongoing support from his family while building additional skills for increased independence. The student would function primarily as a mentor and guide to help the individual establish and refine skills for independent living and connect with ongoing supports and social outlets in his community.

Specific needs include a student who would be available 1-2 days a week to
assist with transportation and engagement with the individual throughout the community. The student would need to be available on Monday afternoons and evenings to assist with transportation to and from the Kernersville area to appointments in downtown Winston-Salem, as well as 1-2 additional days each week to help facilitate and model healthy social interactions and independent living skills in the community. Examples of activities and responsibilities could include taking the individual to/from work, making plans for dinner after work, getting together with a friend or co-worker for lunch, completing creative projects, attending a sporting event, or exploring potential hobbies.

Ideal Canidate:

Student who is reliable, open to working with the individual in various community settings surrounding Kernersville (Winston-Salem, Greensboro, etc.), has a good driving record and access to a reliable vehicle, and is familiar with and willing to learn more about various aspects of autism spectrum disorder.
